Progress Log #3:

WAKE UP

As you can see, the fireball is functional. It even has a couple effects to go along with it, which I swear look way better above 144p. The laser hockey minigame from Wii Play gave me the idea to increase the brightness of the light whenever it bounces, which gives it a cool, magical ambience.

The one thing I haven't done yet is limit the amount of times you can cast it. Without some sort of limit, an attack this powerful would be really boring. It's quite amazing how much of an effect cooldowns and mana meters can have on games, which is probably why those systems are found pretty much everywhere. Not even I can escape the draw of the blue bar, which I will implement over the course of the coming week.

I also just fixed a bunch of issues that I may or may not have caused with the enemies. The old script on them was a clusterfumble, so I tidied it up and removed the several dozen lines of pointless code. This didn't change how they behaved at all, since it was pointless code. On top of that, I fixed some bugs that I let loose sometime between now and the posting of the first demo. Now, working on the AI for the enemies next week won't feel so awful. I really wish I could say I actually added something to them, but the small victories should be celebrated too.

Last but not least, I redrew the background for the level; specifically the lower half of it. That was the part that I really half-assed when I originally drew it, so I stopped procrastinating and did it right this time. Here's the probably-not-final draft. If you're wondering where the sun, clouds, and stars are, those are in a separate texture so that they can have less parallax.

I'll probably add a little bit more to this later, but I'm happy with how it looks for now.

Alright, You Can Go Back to Sleep Now

As stated before, I'll have a lot more time to work on this project in the upcoming weeks. My plans for the next seven days are to add more to the enemy script and implement the magic system for enchantments. I'll be back here to show off what I have done with that next week. Until we meet again, stranger.
